| | I've never been a big Hulk fan. I see him as a great concept that is rarely executed well (although the Ultimates executes it very well). So, I never even glanced at an issue of Planet Hulk, when it was on the stands. Im intrigued by the possibilities of World War Hulk (although I know they wont follow through with the amount of homicide it needs), so I decided to pick up the Planet Hulk hardcover. This story also has a sequel, World War Hulk |
This is one of the most enjoyable, epic comic book stories Ive read in years. I would probably put it in the top 10. A truly excellent story that creates and depicts an entire world of three dimensional characters in consistent (even though there were 3-4 artists) art. The story is self-contained - there is absolutely no need for the reader to read any stories outside of this book to fully enjoy the story. I really felt for the Hulk and for the supporting characters. Over the 14 issues or so, they all become very real in particular the Lieutenant, Korg, and Miek. I wasnt pre-aware of the appearance of the Silver Surfer. It was a welcome surprise and a great use of the character. The book includes several historical essays about the various races and locales featured in the book. The story burns at a very fast pace (I would have liked it to last a few more issues) and reaches such a dramatic crescendo that I cant see many people who read this not rushing out to get World War Hulk.','','Review: Planet Hulk (HC) A+
