| | Invincible is consistently one of the best superhero comic books in print, today. This issue is no exception. Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley are an excellent team. Ottley's art, in this title, stands out as unique and appropriate for the book. Invincible is the story of Mark Grayson, a teenager that has inherited super strength, impervious skin, and the ability to fly from his alien father. Mark lives with his human mother and, more recently, his alien half-brother. This issue focuses on the stress of responsibility. Mark has just started a new relationship with Eve (another hero) but he has a former girlfriend that needs his help. He has his widowed mother and he has to train his immature yet powerful half-brother. There really isn't a lot more I can say without giving away all of the events, other than to say I enjoyed it. Although I loved the shared universes of Marvel and DC, it is nice to have a superhero book that stands alone. Kirkman can do whatever he wants with the characters. Mark's status quo can change, and does. |
