Review: Ultimate Spider-man #129 A
| Brian Bendis' Ultimate Spider-man is one of my favorite titles - I look forward to it, every month. It is with some trepidation that I view its tie-in to Jeph Loeb's Ultimatum. Jeph Loeb's Ultimates 3 was a monumentally bad story and demonstrated no understanding of the Ultimate universe and the differences in the characters from the main Marvel universe. Ultimatum also appears to have as its goal or method, vast destruction of the Ultimate universe - including an annihilating flood of Manhattan. This issue is set prior to Ultimatum #1 and doesn't really focus on Peter Parker/Spider-man. The focus is more on the reintegrating of Gwen Stacey and on Johnny Storm. |
Bendis demonstrates his skill at depicting realistic conversation, whether it be between Johnny and a vapid starlet, Peter and Mary Jane, or Aunt May and the school principal. This issue is pretty dense and has a good cliff-hanger.
