Review: Dark Avengers #1 B+
| Writer: Brian Bendis Penciler: Mike Deodato |
I'll admit, I started reading this issue with a bias against it. I'm still a little annoyed that Bendis wasted so many opportunities with Secret Invasion just to start Dark Reign. I'm also sick to death of Norman Osborn. All that said, I enjoyed this issue quite a bit. Like this week's Mighty Avengers, the issue is about the setup of yet another Avengers team (I think Marvel is taking a big risk with this many teams). This team, as the name implies, isn't composed of the boyscouts like Captain America and Tony Stark. No, this team includes a few quite cretinous characters.
Osborn is putting together this team, which will be the "official" Avengers. And to make everything look okay, several of the characters are intended to be seen as previous members of the Avengers - but putting someone else behind a mask isn't too much of a challenge for Norman.
Interesting start, helped by Mike Deodato's nice artwork make this a book that I will pick up next month.
