Review: Legion of 3 Worlds A
| Writer: Geoff Johns Penciler: George Perez Inker: Scott Koblish |
I am loving this book, even though the story is a little tough for me to follow because I'm not at all well versed on the different incarnations of the Legion of Superheroes. I am fascinated with its goal, of pulling all the different incarnations together, in one cohesive story, setting up a new status quo for the Legion - hopefully pulling the best of each version.
When I organize my Wednesday stack of comics into the order I want to read them, there are a few creator names that immediately get to the top of the stack. Geoff Johns and George Perez are both in that category. Johns has developed a reputation for cleaning up messes at DC. Who else could have turned the character of Hal Jordan from Pariah to the star of one of the best books published and the focus of DC's next big event. Perez is quite simply a legend. He has an amazing ability to depict vast sense with sometimes hundreds of characters. Even if you don't plan on buying this book, next time you're in your local comic store, pick up this issue and turn to the double page splash about 4 pages into the book. It is absolutely amazing.
DC made a big mistake. Legion of 3 Worlds should have been their big 2008 event, not Final Crisis. It's almost sullying to have the Final Crisis banner on this book. Don't let that deter you from reading this series. It has only the most tenuous of connections to that mini-series.
