Review: The Sword #15 A-
| Writer: Joshua Luna Artist: Jonathan Luna Publisher: Image Price: $2.99 |
The Luna brothers first came to my attention with their excellent mini-series, Ultra, followed by Girls and the Spider-woman mini-series they did for Marvel. Their current series is The Sword. Dara Brighton is, or was, a paraplegic art student. One day three strangers show up at her family's home and kill everyone and wound Dara. But Dara finds the object they had been seeking, a magical sword that has healing powers and more. The sword restores her legs and gives her super-strength.
It turns out that Dara's father had been in possession of the sword for a long, long, time and was much older than Dara thought. The three strangers, two brothers and a sister, named Zakros, Knossos, and Malia, have a history going back as far as their names would indicated. Out of mixed motives of knowing that she and her friends will never be safe while those three survive, and a rage that seeks revenge, Dara begins to hunt Zakros, Knossos, and Malia.
Here we are, 15 issues into the story. One has been defeated and a second confronted, but in the last issue Dara lost the sword, leaving her vulnerable. She wants that sword back and she wants revenge. This results in an extremely violent but fun comic book. If the last page doesn't have you saying "WHOA!", I'll be surprised. I recommend it.
