Complete Rocketeer coming in October
One of the big announcements to come out of this weekend's Wondercon, is that IDW Publishing will release all of Dave Stevens' Rocketeer work in a single volume. The Rocketeer first appeared in 1982 and was published sporadically until 1995. The story is set in the period leading up to World War II. Cliff Secord is a stunt pilot that discovers a jetpack that enables him to fly. The story was written as an homage to the serials and pinups of the 1930s and 1940s. The likeness of Betty Page was used for Cliff's girlfriend. Most people will probably be more familiar with the 1991 movie version, starring Billy Campbell, Jennifer Connolly, and Timothy Dalton. The Rocketeer has been out of print for more than a decade and there should be quite an audience wanting a collected edition. IDW has taken its time and had each page recolored to take advantage of today's printing techniques. The colorist, Laura Martin, was selected by Dave Stevens, before his death, last year. |
