Review: Powers Volume 2 A-
| Writer: Brian Michael Bendis Artist: Michael Avon Oeming Publisher: Image Comics Price: $13.99 |
This is the second case for Detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim. Several college students that like to roleplay superheroes have been found murdered, in costume. One of whom was found wearing the costume that Christian wore, when he had powers and was a superhero. The lawsuit from Johnny Royalle, introduced in Volume 1, continues and becomes complicated by an action from Deena.
Powers is like NYPD Blue meets X-Men. It is Brian Michael Bendis in his element, with non-stop witty dialogue. Michael Avon Oeming manages to work to Bendis' strengths by filling pages with a very large number of panels. Oeming draws in a cartoony style but uses shadows, lighting, and blacks to give the story a dark atmosphere.
