Review: Apes & Babes: The Art of Frank Cho Book 1 A
I'm a huge fan of Frank Cho and it is a constant torture that his original art isn't available for purchase. Thankfully, he does publish very nice books of his art. I picked up two of them and last years Wizard World Texas and already owned two. I wasn't actually going to get this new book, because I assumed I already had all the art from it. I received it as a birthday present (thank you Andrew & Ryanne). It is gorgeous and I'm very happy I have it. There is actually quite a bit of art (mostly Marvel superhero art), that I didn't have. Some of which I hadn't even seen (like the redhead with the gun). There is no text, in the book. Every page is full-size art. One of the neatest things, to me, is that in a lot of cases, the left page will be the original pencil roughs and on the right page is the final inked and colored image. I love to study the linework - the loose and abundant scribbles that morph into the crispest and most economical ink lines I've ever seen. Beautiful work. One of the high points for 2008, for me, was the opportunity to meet Frank Cho, at WWTexas. He taught a class, at that convention, on how to draw sexy women. I posted on that, before, including videos someone made of the class. You can see those videos here. If you like Frank Cho's work (and I can't imagine you not liking it) check out this art book. |
