Review: JSA #26 A
| Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Dale Eaglesham Publisher: DC Price: $2.99 |
Geoff Johns came to a lot of people's attention, at DC comics, in 1999 with a book called Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E.. In that title he introduced a character named Courtney Whitmore AKA Stargirl. He based that character on his sister, whom had died, three years before, in an airplane crash. Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. soon led to him becoming the co-writer and eventually writer of JSA. Nine years after he began on JSA, Geoff Johns is leaving the title. It is very fitting that his final issue would concentrate on Courtney (Stargirl).
JSA #26 is, especially for such an epic title, a small story. The title is Black Adam ruined my birthday!. The idea is that the events of the previous issue, involving Black Adam, conflicted with Courtney's birthday and this story is about how the JSA resolve that problem. The story drives home a point that Johns has made over and over with the title - that the JSA are a family. Johns leaves the title with it having a very strong vision and purpose.
Johns isn't the only one leaving. Dale Eaglesham has drawn all but, I think, nine of the issues in the current run. He too has left his mark on the characters. The corrective team that takes over has their work cut out for them.
