Review: Locke & Key: Head Games A-
| Writer: Joe Hill Artist: Gabriel Rodriguez Publisher: IDW Publishing Pages: 160 Price: $24.99 |
Locke & Key: Head Games is the sequel to Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft and was originally published as six issues. When we left Welcome to Lovecraft, an evil ghost had taken on the form of Zack Wells and become a student at the high school and a friend to the Locke children. Unfortunately, Zack Wells bares too much of a resemblance to his former self, Luke, and is recognized by one of the teachers, Mr. Ridgeway. A third of the story is the impacts of that discovery. Another third deals with the youngest Locke child, Bode, finding a key that when inserted into the back of someone's neck, allows one to open up and examine the mind. The remaining third involves some horrific events for the oldest Locke child.
I quite enjoyed reading this. Joe Hill's writing is excellent and Gabriel Rodriguez's art is perfect for the story. I can't quite give this volume the same grade I gave the first because it just felt too brief. I'm sure the events of this volume will be important for volume three - but, read alone, the story seemed to end too quickly and with too little conflict.
